The MSETM curriculum is flexible, permitting you to build a strong degree program that directly addresses your needs and prepares you for the future. The program consists of 32 credit hours. Courses are divided into three categories: Required, Core and Supplemental.
The Required courses include credit hours of ETM courses: ETM 5111, typically taken during the first semester of the program, and a two-part capstone sequence ETM 5121 and ETM 5132, which culminate in the delivery of a final project report at the end of the program. These three courses constitute the creative component.
The remaining 8 credit hours are made up of Core and Supplemental courses. A minimum of 14 credits must be earned from the list of Core courses, representing priority areas of the program. After meeting the Core requirements, the remaining hours may be chosen from either the Core or Supplemental set.
The MSETM program also allows for up to six credit hours of Technical Electives in areas where additional depth is desired, such as a technical specialty or other area of career need. Up to nine hours of coursework may be considered for transfer into the program if taken for graduate credit from an accredited institution in which a "B" or better is earned. This can include coursework taken at another university while enrolled in the MSETM program. In addition, OSU's Graduate College requirements must be met; for example, at least 21 credit hours contributing to the degree must be at the 5XXX level or above. Most students are capable of completing the program in less than three years. Some students have finished in one year and nine months.
